Interactive Practice At Home

Since the 1923 publication of the Universal Teacher for Orchestra and Band by J.E. Maddy and T.P. Giddings, numerous beginning class instructional methods have been published. Each method lays claim as being a better, if not unique, curriculum for developing student musicianship skills. Today, there are more than 30 beginning methods in print. Of these methods, I have chosen to review three that incorporate Computer-Assisted Music Instruction (CAMI) into their curricula.

The first multi-volume heterogeneous band method was The Belwin Band Builder (1950, book 1 and 1953, book 2) by Douglas/Weber. The next major multi-volume book method was the First Division Band Method (1962)
